This guest post is written by Greg Phillips, a former hockey player from Winnipeg who was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1996.

Like many aspiring young hockey players, I grew up with the singular focus of playing in the NHL. I was fortunate enough to have been drafted at age 18 and signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Kings at age 20.

So why, then, are so many parents spending more on their child’s extracurriculars than they’re saving for their post-secondary education? We asked ourselves this very question as we analyzed the findings of our second annual Beyond the Blue Line survey this week, which examines the priorities of Canadian parents.

What better way to spend a snowy night in Canada than talking RESPS? On Wednesday, November 19, we had the privilege of chatting education savings with Canadians in our #LetsTalkRESPs Twitter party. Our hashtag was trending across the country and certainly made a big splash in the Twitterverse with more than 3,200 tweets (that's almost 1 tweet per second!)
