This guest post is written by Greg Phillips, a former hockey player from Winnipeg who was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1996.

Like many aspiring young hockey players, I grew up with the singular focus of playing in the NHL. I was fortunate enough to have been drafted at age 18 and signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Kings at age 20.

LEARNING PROJECT

Not-for-profits have a huge impact in our society, but there always seems to be an underlying problem across the board: a lack of funding. There is an abundance of bright minds with fresh, new ideas, but many organizations just aren’t able to fund innovative projects without grants or significant donations.

As a mom of two teenage daughters, I often find myself thinking about what the future holds. What will the world be like in 10 or 15 years from now as they become young adults and launch careers of their own?

Like all parents, my husband and I do our best to prepare our kids for the big bold world, but it’s sometimes tough to give them advice when we’re not quite sure what to expect ourselves.

Mother and Daughter

There's a lot of conversation about public policy as it relates to post-secondary education. But education isn’t just about public policy; it’s about encouraging children to excel and inspiring them to fulfil their dreams for the future. At CST Consultants we believe it’s not public policy that will motivate a child; it’s the education positive environment that she grows up in that instils in her the belief that achieving any dream is possible. It’s about what happens in families and with their children. I know. I have seven of my own.
