Then don’t let the next few years slip away, because now is the time to start thinking about your teen’s next steps after grade 12. Is post-secondary education in the picture?

You know you’re ‘adulting’ when you start thinking about saving money for things like your family, kids and your retirement. Many of us are challenged with how to save for both our kids’ education and our “golden years” at the same time.  Fortunately, products like Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) and Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs) help make this choice a little easier. But when you’re a parent who’s being pulled in two directions, which one do you put your money in?

Pierre Dushime (Learning Matters Education Charity Bursary Award Winner) was born in Kigal, Rwanda, and is currently pursuing his 4-year BCL/JD studies at McGill University in Montreal. Drawing from his own experience of having grown up in exile, first in Uganda to escape Rwanda, then in Canada to escape Rwanda, Pierre has made it his goal to tackle issues facing refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants in Canada.

Adam Lake (2020 CST Graduate Award) was born in Toronto and is currently pursuing a Collaborative Graduate Certificate in Ethnic & Pluralism Studies and a Masters of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto. He graduated from York University with a Specialized Honours BA in Sociology and a Certificate in Anti-Racist Research and Practice (CARRP).
